I am not able to create a database in sql server 2005
Cannot connect to a named instance in SQL Server 2012 remotely
Dear all,
I am using Sql Server 2012. I have created a named Instance called SQLEXPRESS. When I try to connect it by 127.0.0.1\sqlexpress. It is OK. But when I used real IP ( it is on the same machine) to connect , like 121.13.123.124\sqlexpress. It have the following message
( Provider. SQL Network Interface error: 26 Error locating Server\Instance Specified).
I have shut Firewall. Set the IP Protocol in configuration Manager and Set the IP2 address to my internal ip. But it still not work. Then
what I done is to installed an Default Instance . Then when I connect to the SQL Server like 121.13.123.124 ( You can see, I do not type the instance name.) Then it can be connected. No any modification to the Windows Setting and SQL Server setting has been done to make it connected.
But I really hope that I can also connect the named instance by remote IP. So why it is Ok for default instance but not ok for named instance. Did I miss any setting for the named Instance. Please help.
Thanks.

Sql Server
hello,
I tried many ways but i am unable to install Sql Server don't know why ?
Why is SQL Server hard to uninstall?
When I go to uninstall SQL Server, SQL Server is listed about 20 times while all other apps are listed one time. SQL Server should be listed in uninstall exactly like this:
Uninstall {sqlServer:user, sqlServer:development}
SQL Express Named Instance - Firewall Issue
I am running a named instance on SQL Server 2008 R2 Express and attempting to configure my Windows Firewall to be enabled on the server.
When attempting to connect to the database through the application, if the firewall is disabled I am able to connect to the server, with the firewall is enabled I am unable to connect to the server, so it is narrowed down to a firewall issue.
When the firewall is enabled, the firewall log shows that it is dropping connections to my workstation on ports in the high 50,000 to low 60,000 range. I understand this is due to the named instance being handed off to dynamic ports after establishing the connection on port 1433 and 1434, correct?
To remedy this I have verified on my server that TCP port 1433 and UDP port 1434 are allowing inbound connections. I have also used the network configuration manager to change TCP/IP for the instance to a static port by removing the 0 from Dynamic and assigning a static port, I then add that static port to the firewall rule. The connections still drop.
For testing purposes I created a firewall rule to allow all connections, specifying the source workstation IP. The connection succeeds, but that is not a solution as the workstations are numerous and are using dynamic IP configurations.
I can't imagine that Microsoft would design SQL server to not allow you to have the firewall enabled while using a named instance, so what is the solution I am missing?
Thanks.
SQL Server 2008 Express R2 installation problem
Goodevening,
I am trying to instal SQL Server 2008 Express R2 on my system (Windows 7 Professional SP1) for some time now but it fails to install. I have downloaded the .exe file (SQLEXPRWT_x86_ENU) and I run it as admin. It starts extracting files in my external hdd
and when the extraction is completed I have to authorise the setup.exe to make changes to my pc. I press yes and then nothing happens. For a single moment i can see a cmd window to popup and then everything goes away. The extracted file is deleted automatically
and there is no process in the background that shows that something happens.
I have tried to do that process without my external hdd and the same happens.
Anyone knows what's going on and how can I fix this?
SQL Server 2012 Installation Disaster
Hi,
Today I tried to install SQL Server 2012 developer to my workstation. The install appeared to be going well until I got some odd module errors. I stopped the install, rebooted my system and then tried again. Now the install wizard just quits every time I try an install or repair. It successfully passes "setup support rules" and I get as far as "Install Setup Files". But then the window just exits.
How do I resolve this issue?
Thanks is advance,
Gary

Can't Uninstall SQL Server 2005 Express Tools
I am attempting to install SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Trial and receive the follow error during installation.
"The SQL Server 2005 Express Tools are installed. To continue, remove the SQL Server 2005 Express Tools."
I have used Add or Remove programs to remove all components of SQL Server 2005 Express. I have even reinstalled the Workstation Tools of SQL Server 2005 just so I could indiviually remove those tools, and then completly removed the SQL 2005 installation.
I have used regedit to search for any instance of SQL Server 2005, there is none.
There is still an entry for SQL Server Mangement Express in my all programs listing. However trying to launch that program fails with errors, so it is partial still installed.
Can anyone tell me how to wipe out these last bits of SQL Server 2005 Express Tools? I have tried everything I have found searching this forum to no avail.

What SQL Version to buy?
Hi there. Sorry but most of the posts I've read regarding buying a version of SQL are over 5 years old!
So... here's my question(s). I've developed a Windows (Access ADP) application for a customer of mine and now they need to purchase a version of SQL that I can install it on. I've been thinking that SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition woulld work best for them. They are a small-medium company with 15+ users, 3 remote connections to Head Office. They will have a Windows 2003 Server with some power to HOST the SQL server. So here are my questions.
1) Should I have them purchase SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition or SQL 2012? (I've developed on SQL 2008 R2)
2) What does this mean:It will be priced at $7,499 per processor or $1,849 per server with five CALs?
3) Why is it that I can find "Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard Full Version Retail DVD & Key (Promotional)" for $699? Is that a good price and is that a full upgradable version of SQL 2008 R2? Other sites to purchase SQL 2008 Standard have it listed at somewhere around $4000?????
I don't think my customer is willing to shell out thousand of dollars for SQL but $699 to $1000 they will. So what direct should I go?

SQL Server Upgrade 2000 - 2005 files read only but not really
Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade from SQL Server 2000 to 2005. The problem I am having is that when I try to attach the existing db files I get a message that says "database cannot be upgraded because it is read only or has read only files...."
Thing is... there is no write protection on the files.
Can anyone advise me on how to overcome this problem so that I can attach the db, please?
Thank you
Robert
Repair: Could not find the Database Engine startup handle
I installed SQL Server 2012 Standard on a trial basis. I received notice that the trial period expired.
I attempted to uninstall the product using Windows uninstall. The uninstall process hung.
I attempted to repair the installation. I ran the SQL Server 2012 installation program as administrator. I selected the repair option. 80% of the way through the repair process, I receive the message "Could not find the Database Engine startup handle". There is NOTHING on the web that is relevant to SQL Server 2012 and this error message.
How do I get SQL Server 2012 off my computer?
Thanks in advance ...

KB2716439 install failure due to running WMI service
KB2716439 security update fails to install here when WMI service is running. The installer does not attempt to stop the service or anything, just spits out a ton of logs and leaves the update incomplete. All finished well after stopping the WMI service manually and re-running the hotfix installer. Relevant part of the log:

Test for SQL Server Authentication Mode (for use in installer)
Hi,
We are building an installer that will want to install a database on a remote database server. Before we attempt anything on that server, we want to test that server to find its Authentication mode setting (it looks like we would want to use UIConnectionInfo.AuthenticationType, but on its reference page, it says never to use it). We want to then instruct the user to do something if "mixed-mode" is not set on that server (such as have it enabled).
Is there a way we can do this? We will not have access to the console of the database server, nor will we be able to look at the registry of the database server. Just trying to go ahead and let it fail and not be sure why it failed will only lead to a very long and political battle at the user site that we want to avoid.
Thanks,
Rob

SQL 2008 Database Mail and Notifications
Windows 2008 R2 Standard 64 bit Server with SQl 2008 Standard 64 Bit
I setup several Maintenance Plans for all my SQl databases on three instances.
SQLAgent runs great all the jobs run successfully from the Maintenance Plans.
After each job that runs I get notified via email. That also is working great.
The problem is that I am getting up to 4 emails for the exact same job
I do not understand why I am getting duplicate emails from the Database Mail and notifications.
If I run the job manually I only get one email notification
The multiple emails come when the job is scsheduled to run. I checked the logs and the job only runs once also checked the database mail log did not see any thing strange theere.
ANy ideas why the email notifications are duplicating themselfs? 2 3 even 4 times?
Thanks

SQL Server developer edition and Licencing
If I am going to use the Developer Edition of SQL Server in my not production environments, I need to have a licence for every Developer that is going to use the Instances created with the Developer Edition. But do I also need licences for business people who are using application other then SQL Server tools? And do I need licences for Service Accounts that an application can use to connect to the database?
Thanks,
