Production Server Upgrade

Good day,

I would like to upgrade the current SQL2014 Enterprise to SQL2016 Enterprise for performance gains

thereafter I want to upgrade the visual studio 2013 t 2017 and windows 2012 to windows 2016

I want to keep the server name & instance, can I just upgrade my current environment without the vs2013 packages or I think best rather setup new server and change name thereafter

I am just rushed to get the server performing (64bit , 64gb ram, 8 proc), I can add ram & copu but I think the 2016 engine will give me greater performance gain

I know silly question, probably have to setup new server separately and don't take chances with production, just thought upgrading to 2016 for ssms & ssas would be a quick win. maybe just add the ram & cpu for quick wins & safer

regards
