Recommendations for parrallelisim settings in AWS

Hello,

We have SQL Server 2014 on Windows 2012R2 in AWS running on m4.2xlarge; single socket 8 core vCPU with 32GB memory. We are increasing the size to m4.4xlarge; single socket 16 core vCPU with 64GB memory. The current settings are default; CoT=5, Lockss=0, MAXDOP=0, Query Wait=-1 (minus 1). I expected to see two NUMA groups with 8 cores each after increasing the size, but did not. I assume it's because they are present in a single socket. With this assumption I plan to make the following changes to the parallelism configuration; CoT=50, Lockss=0, MAXDOP=4, Query Wait=-1 (minus 1). I do understand d every environment is different, and all workloads are not equal. With that said I feel these are good starting points. Appreciate any recommendations from this group on these and any other settings. For instance, we will be changing the memory settings to reflect the increased memory available.

Cheers,

Fred
