SQL Server Agent not listed as cluster resource

$

Hello everyone, thanks for any help on this issue.  I have recently installed SQL 2008 R2 on a Server 2008 R2 machine cluster.  We ran the advanced cluster prep and completion.  I have SQL Server up and running properly and failing over between nodes.  In the failover cluster manager, when I select SQL Server, I do not have the SQL Server Agent listed under other resources.  When I try to start the Agent from the SQL Configuration Manager it fails with an event 103 and I've found several notes on this error but I am figuring the root issue is that there isn't a cluster resource for the Agent.

Is it possible to create the resource for the Agent? I have run a repair and I have tried to use add a resource, generic service, sql agent but it fails when I attempt to bring it online.

Thanks again for any help on this.

Compressed my C drive with active installation, then uncompressed and still having issues

Hello, Thank you in advance to anyone who can help, I've been studying my butt off to try to get SQL certified to try to get a job in the field and this has put me at a stand still.

I installed SQL Server 2017 on my C: drive. I was running low on space and saw the option to compress my C drive at the expense of slower speeds. I did not know it would affect my SQL server instance. The next time I tried to add a table to my database it gave me an error which I eventually traced back to being related to the compression. I decompressed my C drive and regained the ability to work.

Today I tried to connect to my database server with SSMS (on the same device the server is located on by the way same as I always do) and it won't connect and says the system cannot find the file specified.

I assumed this was related to the compression/decompression so I tried to uninstall and didn't find SQL Server 2017 anywhere in my programs, although there are supporting programs like  "Browser for SQL Server 2017", "Microsoft SQL Server 2017 T-SQL Language service", etc. The next logical step was for me to attempt to install it and create a new instance. When I tried to install it I got the error:

Unable to install SQL Server (setup.exe)

Exit code (Decimal): -2054422498Exit message: The specified directory, "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\" for the INSTALLSHAREDWOWDIR parameter is not valid because this directory is compressed or is in a compressed directory.

The problem is I am positive I have decompressed the drive and the Program files directory. I don't even have the option to decompress them because they are already decompressed

SQL cluster storage question

$

I am trying to build a SQL 2016 cluster on Server 2016. We have a Nimble SAN storage with 2 NICs using different subnets -

(1 NIC per subnet) for MPIO connections to SAN storage. We are looking for recommendations on best practices for setting up

storage on SQL server - currently we setup mount points for folders to separate data, backups, and logs.

My questions are:

1. DO mount points cause an issue with clustering and shared storage?

2. Are there any good documents / sites on how to best configure storage for windows / SQL clusters?

Database Collation for Movemenet

Hi

I have 2 server (2 diffrent Application) having Database Instance Collation as Japanese_CI_AS (Server#1) Japanese_BIN (Server#2). I want to move database from server#2 to Server#1 by backup and restore. In That case Server#1 instance Collation will be Japanese_CI_AS. but newly moved database collation will be Japanese_BIN. Actually its bascially requirement for both application to have diffrentDatabase Collation. Now my question are. 1. Is there any issue in above approach w.r.t SQL Server DBA point of view. 2. Is there any issue with Applicvation functions.  Although there will be test period but better to know openion in advance.

Unable to install SQL Server (setup.exe), VS Shell installation has failed with exit code 1638.

Hi,

im trying to Upgrade from SQL-Server 2000 to SQL-Server 2008.

The OS is Windows Server 2003 SBS.

When i run the Setup, the AclPermissionsFacet failed with this message: "Rule 'Consistency validation for SQL Server registry keys' failed'. The SQL Server registry keys from a prior installation cannot be modified. To continue, see SQL Server Setup documentation about how to fix registry keys."

Is there any solution for this?

The 'SSBDT' entries into our SQL Errorlog did not occur in version 12.0.5207 however, they are flooding our 12.0.6024 instances daily by the thousands.

I see no one has replied on this thread for a while; plus there are only a few mentions of this problem when I search. Is there an answer found for this yet?

How can I move the SQL Server 2017 patches from D: to C: or another folder?

Hi,
There is a folder "d:\2e133e64614d3e19535c7eaabb328d" after I install new SQL Server 2017 instance.
The files in that folder seems like SQL Server Install program. If I go deeply, it shows me "Access Denied" as <figure 1>
I've search the HKLM registry as <figure 2> and <figure 3>: Product is sql_shared_mr.msi, Patch is sql_shared_mr.msp.
How can I move the SQL Server 2017 patches to another to C: or another folder, because I want the disk D: is only users' data and no software hold by Windows Installer / SQL Server updater ...

Sorry, when I submit post with pictures, it shows me "Body text cannot contain images or links until we are able to verify your account." So what should I do for applying picture priviliage ?
