Installed SQL Server 2012 developer edition with SP1.  When SSMS is launched, the following error is immediately issued:

    Service 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.IRegistrationService' not found (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SDK.SqlStudio)

After clicking OK, and trying to connect to a remote SQL 2012 box, the following error is issued:

    Service 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.IRegistrationService' not found (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SDK.SqlStudio)

Eventually, the application takes a hard crash and won't quit trying to load itself.

I've tried reinstalling and repairing.

Running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1.

How are these issues solved?

Issues with setting up as local stand alone offline server or admininistrator

Hello,

I have tried to set up as a local stand alone offline server or administrator, but I found out it was no such luck.

Maybe, I need to re-set up the Local or File DNS settings tab and set its default path to <terminal/pc name>/SQLSERVER-EXPRESS

Probably, that would do the task.

My purpose is simple:

I need to connect to a source database name with an SQL file extension, and its destination file extension would be either

an XML schema, or CSV comma delimited file format.

Which steps would I need to take?  I have both the 32 and 64 bit versions, and then I have the drivers for the ANSI and Unicode MySQL drivers respectively.

JohnDBCTX

SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 3 has broken my SQL Agent and all remote connections

Hello, I am having a problem with Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2012.  The upgrade appears to have completed successfully according to all the logs.  However, I am having a few issues now.

1) The SQL Agent does not start anymore.  It throws the following set of errors in the Event Log

Application - SQLServerAgent service successfully started.

System - An TLS 1.2 connection request was received from a remote client application, but none of the cipher suites supported by the client application are supported by the server. The SSL connection request has failed.

System - A fatal alert was generated and sent to the remote endpoint. This may result in termination of the connection. The TLS protocol defined fatal error code is 40. The Windows SChannel error state is 1205.

Application - SQLServerAgent could not be started (reason: Unable to connect to server 'MYSERVER\PROD'; SQLServerAgent cannot start).

Application - SQLServerAgent service successfully stopped.

2) I cannot connect to this server remotely from anywhere, regardless if the Windows Firewall is turned on or off

3) I can connect to the server locally and can query data with t-sql in SSMS, but when I try to pull up the SQL Log I get the error message:

It is like it is unable to remotely connect and run a query!

This is my production server so it is rather important that I get some sort of resolution on this problem fairly quickly.

I have read the article about TLS 1.2 errors but I can't understand why it would be affecting my server as this all worked just about a half hour ago...what changed in SQL Server 2012 SP3 that would prevent any remote connections to this server?

One additional piece of information.  Our domain is running at 2003 level in case this matters.

Hi Pros,

Does anyone know how to fix this error below? I'm running Python in-database using SQL Server 2017. The coding environment should have been set up properly and run code without any problems up until last week and I didn't make any changes on the SQL Server or anything.

===========================================

sample code

exec sp_execute_external_script @language=N'Python',@script=N'OutputDataSet = InputDataSet
print("Input data is {0}".format(InputDataSet))
',@input_data_1= N'SELECT 1 as col'

SQL Server was unable to communicate with the LaunchPad service

I am unable to run R scripts in SQL Server 2016 Service Pack 1 on Windows 10.

When I run:

   exec sp_execute_external_script
     @language =N'R',
     @script=N'OutputDataSet<-InputDataSet',
     @input_data_1 =N'select 1 as hello'
     with result sets (([hello] int not null));
   go

I get the message

   Msg 39011, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
   SQL Server was unable to communicate with the LaunchPad service. Please verify the configuration of the service.
   Msg 11536, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
   EXECUTE statement failed because its WITH RESULT SETS clause specified 1 result set(s), but the statement only sent 0 result    set(s) at run time.

Both Windows Services and SQL Server Configuration Manager report that Launchpad is running.

"Exec sp_configure 'external scripts enabled'" reports 1

Hi,

I have installed SQL Server 2017 Developer edition. I have Launchpad service running under Network Service account and Database engine running under NT Service\MSSQLSERVER. I have enabled external scripts as well launchpad and database engine is up and running, still I see the below error while executing python code.

Msg 39011, Level 16, State 1, Line 8
SQL Server was unable to communicate with the LaunchPad service. Please verify the configuration of the service.

Can you please provide more info on this ? Do you require Launchpad and Database engine running under same service account.

Thanks,

Shantanu.

Change Collation After setting up Always On Availability Group

Hi

I have a problem and I don't know what is the best solution.

I have set up Always On Availability Group with 2 nodes on SQL Server 2017. Default server collation of the previous sql server (2005) was "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1256_CI_AS". I used "Arabic_CI_AS" as server collation which results in conflict between user databases' collation and tempDB collation.

I don't know if it's better to:

1- Change the server collation to "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1256_CI_AS"

or

2- Change user database collation to "Arabic_CI_AS"

I red some instructions to change server collation on Always On AG and it seems i have to remove Listener and AG (Which i prefer not to). But I couldn't find any instruction to change the database collation in Always On AG.

I Appreciate your help as it's the production server and we have some problems in our software due to his conflict.

Could anyone from Microsoft confirm that the mainstream support end date for SQL Server 2012 SP4 was 11 July 2017?

Pros and Cons of accessing SQL management studio via server installs vs local installs

I've been looking around to see if I can find some opinions on accessing SQL management studio directly via the server it is installed on(where the databases are) vs installing a local copy to a desktop and then logging into the databases via object explorer.
I've worked in different places that use different options, and I assumed the reasons are largely based on the clients preference/hosting of servers. However I wondered if there were any actual pros and cons around the two different options that can make one preferable;
ie. is one a more secure option? Are certain things impossible to set up locally?

I find object explorer very convenient for switching between databases and servers, and being able to set things up as registered servers more so.
Obviously if there is anything outside of SQL that requires server access I still have to log on so it may not always be quicker, but I'm interested in hearing what others think.
