SQL 2016 Upgrade Advisor Runtime Error

$
0
0

I have two databases that the Upgrade Advisor cannot analyze.  However it does not give me much assistance finding the source of the errors. (Which I am sure is in my code)

For example:

Microsoft.SqlServer.Dac.Model.DacModelException: Loading source as a script-backed model failed due to the following errors:
Error SQL46010: Incorrect syntax near ,.

This is a VLDB (~7TB) so finding the errant comma or space+comma is going to be some what difficult.

The second database is smaller (~300GB) but the error message is just as obscure.

Microsoft.SqlServer.Dac.Model.DacModelException: Loading source as a script-backed model failed due to the following errors:
Error SQL46010: Incorrect syntax near into.

You can imagine how many times "INTO" appears in a large database.  It would be nice if the Advisor could at least output the name of the object that caused the problem.

I have been looking for a runlog or something like that.  Is there one I have missed?

Unable to login to SQL Server using SSMS and SQL agent failing

I have SQL server 2008 R2 Ent insalled on Windows server 2008 R2 Ent. I am unable to login to SQL server locally after the installation. Getting below error:

Connection handshake failed. An OS call failed: (80090331) 0x80090331(The client and server cannot communicate, because they do not possess a common algorithm.). State 56.

The error led me to this article and I updated my DB engine to 10.50.6542.0. But still unable to login. What should I do in order to allow my SSMS to connect locally. Also the second issue is SQL agent service is not starting. It fails with below error:

Agent could not be started ( unable to connect to server (local), SQLserveragent cannot start).

How to fix this as well? Below is my environment details:

Windows server 2008 R2 Ent. SP1 SQL Server 2008 R2 Ent (10.50.6542.0) .Net version 4.6.01055 SCHANNEL Status:

Please let me know if you need any further details.

SQL express 2008 fast install

Hi all,

We use SQL Express 2008 on our end devices (tills), we currently use images that has our software already installed but we would like to move to an install package rather than deploying images.

Our issue is how long Express 2008 takes to install, we used MSDE for many years and it installed in a couple of minutes, express 2008 can take an hour on a lower spec machine.

I am looking for techniques and options for the fastest possible install of SQL Express 2008?

We already use bat files to remove the installer UI but it still takes ages.

Many thanks

Craig

SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 3 constantly fails with Windows Update Code 84B30002

$

I have MS SQL 2008 R2 Developer, MS SQL 2014 Express, MS SQL 2014 Developer, Visual Studio 3013 Community & Visual Studio 3015 Community

I also installed MSDT & BI templates for Visual Studio 3013

Operation system Windows 8.1 x64 Pro

I have never installed MS SQL 2012 but I found out SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 3 as optional update.  When I tried to install it I got a Code 84B30002.

When I opened list of installed products I found out following products

Microsoft SQL Server 2012

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Command Line Utilities

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Data-Tier Up framework

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Data-Tier Up framework (x64)

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express local DB

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Management Objects

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Management Objects (x64)

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Native Client

Microsoft SQL Server 2012  Setup (English)

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Transact-SQL Compiler Service

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Transact-SQL ScriptDom

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 T-SQL Language Service

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 T-SQL Language Service

Microsoft SQL Server data Tools 2012

Microsoft System CLR Types for SQL Server 2012

Microsoft System CLR Types for SQL Server 2012 (x64)

It is possibly that it was installed with Visual Studio 3013 Community

What I would have to install manually or not install at all (hide this update)?

P.S. I checked when this stuff has been installed - it happened partially when I installed VS 2013 community and some stuff came with MS SQL 2014 Developer

P.P.S.  I tried to run this update manually and got following message:

"There are no SQL Server instances or shared features that can be updated on this computer"

Of course I have never installed MS SQL 2012 on my own.  Moreover there were ~8 Gb download @ Windows Updates.  At the same time there are x64 version - 1.0 Gb & x86 version - 732 Mb

Uninstall SP3 for SSIS taht is on the same box as Database Engine

Hi,

I have applied sp3 to the existing SQL Server 2012 sp1 and have issues with SSIS packages that are similar to this link. Now I have to roll back the change just on SSIS instance. In this case database engine and SSIS instance share the same box and while uninstalling the update I am getting this error

Is there a way to un install just the sp3 for the SSIS instance as we want to keep the database engine on SP3

Thanks

Trying to repair SQL Server 2012 SP2 installation, following a failed SP3 installation. During the repair the pre-checks correctly detect SQL Server is not clustered, but during the repair of Analysis Services it fails due to Cluster Group cannot be empty.

Is there a way to force the repair into non-clustered mode?

SQL Server 2012 SP3 installation fails due to Object Reference Errors

Running SQL Server 2012 SP2 CU6 on Windows Server 2012 R2, and trying to apply service pack 3 for SQL Server 2012. Ran into an issue where SP3 fails due to Object Reference not set to an instance of an object.  We are using the default instance name MSSQLSERVER.

I tried repairs and uninstalling SP3, all failed due to object reference errors.

At this time, I am unable to post the detail.txt file.

What are some things I can look for in the detail.txt file that could point to the real problem?

Any Assistance would be appreciated.

How to uninstall SP3 for SQL Server 2008 R2? Asks for 'SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 Management Studio' disk

$

I'd like to have a clean uninstall procedure for SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition SP3 before I roll this out to other servers. On a lab server, I've installed SP3 (already had SP2). When I try to uninstall SP3, I run into the following:

"The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the 'SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 Management Studio' disk and click OK." Use source: Please insert next disk drop-down and a browse button.

What are my options here? Can't find SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 media on MSDN or anywhere else.

1) Uninstall SQL Server Management Studio first, then try uninstalling SP3? Would I have to uninstall all shared features or just SSMS to get further?

2) During the SP3 uninstall process, could I point to SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM media, then reinstall SP2?

3) Create a slipstreamed SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 and point to it?

4) Something else?

What's the easiest way to proceed and why am I seeing this behavior? While there aren't likely to be problems with SQL Server 2008 R2 SP3, I'd feel remiss if I didn't have a tested uninstall process for SP3. The SQL Server instances in question may have been installed with slipstreamed media (SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2)--perhaps that's why I'm seeing this. Whoever provided the slipstreamed media no longer has it.

Thanks.

SQL 2012 Enterprise Evaluation is going to expire and I would like to install SQL 2012 Standard edition on it

I have some problems for SQL 2012 Enterprise evaluation.

Here is the background of the problems...

Originally, I downloaded SQL 2012 Enterprise evaluation from Microsoft and installed it on Windows 2008 R2.

The SQL 2012 Enterprise evaluation is going to expire and has couple production databases running on this server. My questions are

1: Can I downgrade SQL 2012 Enterprise evaluation to SQL 2012 standard edition (volume license and no product key) and still keep the production databases?

2: if the 1st question is not possible, how do I activate the SQL 2012 Enterprise evaluation edition.

thanks,

I'm in the Product Updates step of the setup and it's checking for updates which is really taking a long time.  Can I cancel the setup, rerun it and when it gets to the Product Updates again just uncheck "Include SQL Server product updates" and after the setup is completed, run the Windows update?  Thanks.

Good day,

I whant to install 4-node MSSQL 2012 cluster with several instances on HP DL380 servers with Windows server 2008R2.

Three servers are Gen 9 and one Gen 8. Memory and network configuration is identical, CPU are not the same.

Whether this configuration is correct for cluster installation ?

Probablybetter to install Windows 2012 R2 instead Windows 2008 R2 on cluster nodes ?

Doing in place upgrade of Windows Server 2008 Standard to 2008 Enterprise running SQL Server

$

Hi All!  I have read I can do an in-place upgrade of Windows Server 2008 Standard to 2008 Enterprise.  I'm doing this for the increase of RAM that is allowed with the Enterprise version, I want to go from 4GB to 16GB.  It sounds simple enough to do the in place upgrade, but how is that going to impact my installation of SQL Server 2008R2 on the same server?  Will I need to reinstall SQL 2008R2 and restore the databases from backups?  Thanks in advance!

Issue installing SQL 2014 CTP2

Good morning,

I am trying to install SQL 2014 CTP2 and am having a bit of an issue.  Having uninstalled 2014 CTP1, I attempted to install on my Windows 7 Professional (SP1) x64 laptop.

Any advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

The installation repeatedly gets to the same point and then hangs at "Install_SQLSupport_Cpu64_Action".  Reading the Detail.txt file in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\120\Setup Bootstrap\Log\20131028_084421 folder, I see the following:

and then the infinite loop regarding the Win32 API.

I've had a look at the install media (a downloaded ISO) and found that the SQLSupport.msi does exist, however it is found here:

G:\1033_ENU_LP\x64\Setup\sqlsupport_msi\SQLSupport.msi
There is no x64 folder under the
G:\1033_ENU_LP\x64\Setup\sqlsupport_msi\
folder.

The following steps will repro the issue:

Installation: New SQL Stand-Alone insatllation or add features to an existing installation.

Setup Role: SQL Server Feature Installation
Instance Features:
database engine services: SQL Server replication, Full Text Semantic Extractions

Click "Next"

Any advice, or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Deploy SQL Management Studio 2012 through SCCM

$

Hello,

Has anyone successfully deployed SQL Management Studio 2012 with SCCM?

A couple of specific questions:

- Which folder from the SQL Media is required to ensure that only Management Studio deploys (we would like to limit the size of the deployment Package)?

- What command line options do we need to use to install the Advanced version of Management Studio with all of the Tools and Books Online.  I have found the following but there is not a clear distinction about what is required and what is optional: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms144259.aspx

- Can someone confirm the following command line options for machine that has 2008 R2 Management Studio on it?
Setup.exe /q /ACTION=upgrade /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /FEATURES=Tools

- Can someone confirm the following command line options for a new installation of 2012 Management Studio?
Setup.exe /q /ACTION=Install /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /FEATURES=Tools

- Do I need to use /PID for the product key if I am only installing Management Studio?

Thank you,

Matt
