I am trying to uninstall the Cumulative Update 4 for SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 from the list of installed updates in the Control Panel.
I go through the various screens and click Remove and after a while a dialog box comes up asking me to locate the sql_bids.msi file. The only one I can find is the one with the original install of SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM version. When I point to this it complains 'The file ... is not a valid installation package for the product SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 BI Development Studio. Try to find the installation package 'sql_bids.msi' in a folder from which you can install SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 BI Development Studio.' so I assume this isn't the correct one. I try and get hold of this file in the CU4 temporary installation folder but it is not there.
If I ignore this request 2 further dialog boxes ask me foe the sql_tools.msi and sql_as.msi files with the same result. If I ignore all 3 the uninstall fails.
Entries are made in the Event Log and refer to the log file which doesn't provide me with any information on why this is not working.
I cannot uninstall CU4 for SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 as a result.
Any help would be most appreciated.
