SSMS 16.5.3 or 17.9?? (for SQL2016 db engine)

I'm installing SQL2016 database engine and need to install SSMS as well.

Do I need to install SSMS 16.5.3 to ensure compatibility, or will SSMS 17.9 be totally compatible with 2016 database engine? Or does it even matter?

Any other pros & cons (experiences/opinions) for either version of SSMS to use with SQL2016 db engine?
