SQL Server Upgrade from 2008 R2 to 2016

Hi,

We have a SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise edition and planning to migrate it to SQL Server 2016 Enterprise in a new hardware.

One of the database is close to 10 TB in size. What would be the best approach to migrate? I have couple of options.

1. I don’t want to do an in-place upgrade because new instance will be in a separate hardware
2. Backup and Restore option 1 – Not supported directly from 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2016
3. Backup and Restore option 2 – Install SQL server 2012 and Restore -> 2012 –> 2014 and 2014 - > 2016
4. Install SQL Server 2016 in a new Hardware and develop an ETL package using SSIS to migrate data from SQL Server 2008 R2 instance to New SQL Server 2016 Instance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
