Planning new physical SQL Server

Hi,

We are looking into configuring a new physical SQL server and would like to have some advice.

Here is whats is needed

C: 600 GB (OS Disk)
D: 8000 GB (Data)
E: 4000 GB (Log)
F: 8000 GB (Local disk for backup)

When it comes to F: drive with 8TB, this is for backup. We would like to do internal SQL backup, and save it first on a internal drive, before we do a file copy over to a NAS box. The reason for this is that it seems to go very slow to do the SQL backup over network even if we have gig network. Another question is if this internal backup would cause a problem with the SQL server when it comes to disk performance.

Another thing I have read is that raid 10 is recommended, budget is not a problem. My question is, should we have 1 singel raid 10, and only partition the disks ? Or should be for example by 2 disks for the OS, configure these as Raid 1, and the D,E and F drive as Raid 10 ? Or another solution like this F: drive, should this be on another raid ?

Any other recommendation when it comes to configurations is welcome... things like for example Raid controller cache size ++ ?

Thanks for answers.

Regards

Andreas
