I want to deploy SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition to 4 phyiscal machines for development purposes. A total of 200 developers will access any one of these instances via SSMS for development purposes. I understand that each of the 200 developers will need a license and the Windows Server they are running on will also need a license.
My question is: If they deploy a Web Site (for development use on different machines other then the SQL Server where Developer Edition is installed) would the physical IIS servers (4 total) need a SQL Server license to access the developer editions of SQL Server installed on the or do the licenses for the 200 developers cover that? Can the Developer Edition of SQL Server even work in this model?
The Web Sites are configured to use SQL Authentication, if that makes a different.
