Let me start by saying that an uninstall and re-install is not an option.
I am trying to install SP3, for SQL Express 2008 R2 so that I can run parallel SQL Express installations while migrating databases. MS web site states that this can be done.
I am receiving the error when trying to run
SQLServer2008R2SP3-KB2979597-x64-ENU.exe
SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: productVersion.
I have read a bit about solutions from deleting registry keys to uninstalling. I have logged in with Admin rights locally and tried to Run As Admin the file as well.
I am looking for more definitive information as to the cause of this error and a more appropriate patch, hotfix or explicit setting to update in order to clear this failed installation.
I have attempted the following hotfixes,
KB Article Number(s) 2926217, 2957174, 2963668, 2967240, 2967540, 2977312, 2977756
I have also tried the .Net repair tool.

Update: I have also downloaded and run this script to correctly identify version information on this system. I have another server and dev workstation which will also need these upgrades...
