Unable to change the SQL Server Agent Account on Windows 2012 R2 using Configuration Manager

I have been performing several new installations of SQL Server, both SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 and SQL Server 2012.  Theses are being installed on Windows 2012 Server R2.

During the installation process, the account used for the various services (Database engine, SQL Server Agent) was my account, which is a member of the local administrators group on that server.

After installation, I have then been provided with permanent accounts with which to run the services.  These are domain accounts, and are not part of any local group on the server.

When I try and change the account for the SQL Server Agent, I receive the following error:- WMI Provider Error. Access is denied. [0x80070005].

The only way I can get this to work, is if I add the account to the local administrators group, however this is in direct contradiction to Microsoft best practices regarding the permissions for the SQL Server Agent Account.

I've ensured that when I run the SSCM I use the "Run as administrator" option, I've also tried adding both my own account and the service account to have full permission on the WMI root namespace and sub namespaces, but continue to recieve the same error.

Any help on how to resolve this?
