Attempting a side-by-side installation ofMicrosoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2- Express Edition with Advanced Services on Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 failed with this error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.
The Detail.txt log showed the service in question to be: the SQL Server VSS Writer service which just happened to be disabled when the installation took place. The current state of the installation is therefore:
Database Engine Services – Failed
Full-text Search – Failed
Unfortunately attempting to repair the installation results in these errors:
The SQL Server feature 'SQL_Engine_Core_Inst' is not in a supported state for repair, as it was never successfully configured
The SQL Server feature 'SQL_FullText_Adv' is not in a supported state for repair, as it was never successfully configured
The question is: can things be resolved to a successful configuration state without having to uninstall and reinstall again?
Thanks
