Run upgrade advisor for SQL server 2005 DB which is restored on SQL server 2012 server

Hi,

We have a SQL server 2005 DB backup for which I need to run upgrade advisor to upgrade to 2012. But we need to restore 2005 DB backup on sql 2012 server and then only run the advisor since we cannot log in to 2005 server. Can any one explain if this is possible and will it give intended results?
