Hi all,
I would have thought this had been asked before but I was unable to find anything in my searching. We are planning an upgrade of a SQL 2008 instance running on a Win 2008R2 cluster. Simplest option by far is to just install another instance on the cluster and retire the old instance. Alternatively, if there is a benefit, we could reinstall the OS as part of the upgrade effort.
A few particulars, the cluster is dedicated hardware, the dbs are all on an attached SAN (no SMB or virtualization). We are running a moderately big box but are in no danger of hitting RAM or CPU limits on 2008R2.
So, what say you? Are there any benefits to running SQL 2014 on a Windows 2012R2? Any drawbacks on Windows 2008R2?
Thanks
