This SQL Server Setup media is not supported on a X64 system. To continue, run the SQL Server Setup media that matches your system.

I have downloaded the DVD versions of both the standard and developer versions from MSDN in an effort to install SQL Server 2008 R2. I downloaded both because I cannot get either one to install. I get the same error from both. I am running on 64 bit computer. Each time, after the download, I double click on the downloaded iso file. This opens a new window showing a series of programs / files. One is setup.exe so I double click on that. The system asks me if I want to allow changes and I click yes. Then I get the error:

This SQL Server Setup media is not supported on a X64 system. To continue, run the SQL Server Setup media that matches your system.

Here's what I downloaded:

en_sql_server_2008_r2_standard_x86_x64_ia64_dvd_521546.iso

en_sql_server_2008_r2_developer_x86_x64_ia64_dvd_522665.iso

Neither one works for me...

I have seen this problem submitted by others, but I have not seen a solution.

Here are the different scenarios I have tried...

1. Double click the iso when it exists in my user download folder...I get the above error.

2. Move the iso to the root directory - same error.

3. Burn the iso to a DVD, then run setup.exe from the DVD - same error.

4. I have tried options above using both downloaded files (standard and developer version).

When I extract from the downloads, I am trying the setup.exe in the root directory of the iso. The same root also contains an x86 and an x64 folder and those contain folders Setup folders that contain numerous .msi - I have tried these separately and they do not execute either.

Does anyone know how I can get this to install?
