Help!
We had database mail working smoothly with Exchange 2007. Last night the Exchange administrators migrated everyone to Exchange 2010. On our end we thought keeping things working would be as simple as changing the name of the mail server in the existing database mail accounts. Surprise surprise! We should have done more homework when they notified us four days ago.
We don't have easy access to the Exchange Administrators, but from doing our own research it looks as though Exchange 2010 has SMTP turned off by default. We are working our organizational channels to see if we can get them to turn it on but it's possible they may hang us to dry. The odds of them setting up a relay server are even slimmer, and from the sender documentation I've found so far that seems to be the only alternative to getting SMTP turned on. So my question is this:
Is there a way to set up database mail so that it uses the same protocols as Outlook to communicate with Exchange 2010?
I get the impression that Outlook does some kind of handshake on port 135 then asks Exchange for a temporary port that it can send/receive on. We only need to send. I'm open to any options anyone has tried that don't require the Exchange Admin to make changes. The Exchange admins here are virtually inaccessible. I am not afraid of writing a SQL CLR if someone can give me some vague guidance.
