Would it be advisable to use a single server to host multiple instances of SQL 2012 to provide better segregation in terms of security? For instance having a Pastel (accounting software) instance, one for all system related databases (e.g. Anti-Virus database, vCenter database, WSUS database, SCCM database, etc), one instance for each custom applications and another instance for test and development and yet another separate instance for SharePoint. Are there any good guidles and real world examples? Also I cannot seem to find any SQL 2012 best practices, especially in term of performance, beyond system requirements. Is it too early or can one use SQL 2008 R2 guidelines?
