repairing sql

hi there

we have a windows server 2003 sbs install that has sql 2005 on.

we have installed act 2013 which installs sql 2008 r2 but doesnt seem to have completed the setup correctly. 

im now trying to repair the sql 2008 installation to try and get it working, but i have come across an error that i cant get round. the error states the below:

SQL Server Setup has encountered an error when running a Windows Installer file.

Windows Installer error message: This patch package could not be opened.  Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package.
