SQl Server 2008 R2 Express SP1 instance un-installation is failed after upgrading SQL Server from SP1 to SP2.

Hi,

The above header refers.

I created SQL Server "User Instance" in "SQL Server 2008 R2 Express SP1" from "InstallShield Package". After creating instance successfully in "SQL Server 2008 R2 Express SP1", I upgraded SQL Server 2008R2 from SP1 to SP2 manually and checked working fine.

Now I am trying to Un-Install "User Instance" (which is created in "SQL Server 2008 R2 Express SP1”) from "InstallShield Package", Un-Installation of User Instance process is freeze (endless loop).

Below scenarios no issues:-

1. If I am not upgraded from "ServicePack 1" to "ServicePack 2", there is no issue.

2. If I try to un-install from "Command prompt" also no issue.

3. There are no issues with lower express editions like “SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008”.

So any help that you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Reddappa

SQL Server Express Setup failure

I am trying to install SQL Server 2008 R2 Express on a Windows XP Home 32bit edition machine.

I have already installed SQL Server 2005 in this machine.

I keep getting the following error:

TITLE: SQL Server Setup failure.
------------------------------

SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error:

The name 'ldlᓃ-b.dlldlᓃ' contains characters that are not valid for a Culture or Region.
Parameter name: cultureName.

I downloaded and tried SQL Server 2012 Express but still the same error.

Has anyone have idea on what could be wrong?

Is there a way to run the SQL setup on one machine with a switch that allows me to just to build the installation file so that I can then do the install on a core server machine supplying the config file?

On my volume license page I see two different flavors of SQL server for Standard and Datacenter editions

SQL Server Standard 2012

SQL Server Standard 2012 Core

etc.

What's the difference? ... Licensing Model?

SQL 2008 Setup

We have built a server installed SQL and tested and ready to move it to Prod. The issue we have is that the Sever name has to be changed. We can change the name and do the required items in side SQL Manager but we have noticed that the Group Member  names  that are set up by SQL 2008 on install add the server name, <Group Member Name>ServerName, so when you do a name change the groups do not change to refelct the new server name.

Reporting and Logging sending multiple emails

I asked this question before but we got side tracked thinking it was email not working on sql.

I run SQL 2008 64 Bit on a Windows 2008 R2 64 bit server.

Email database does work. SQLAgent setup properly.

I created several maintenance plans.

Each Maintenance Plan has 5 to 6 tasks defined which created 5 to 6 jobs. Reason some have six is for a transaction log backup.

My tasks are 1. check Database  Integrity  Task 2. Shrink Database Task 3. Maintenance Cleanup Task 4. Full Backup Task 5 Transaction Log Backup Task 6. History Cleanup Task

That creates a subplan_1 subplan_2 subplan_3 subplan_4 subplan_5 subplan_6

The jobs are created DB Maint Plan Test.subplan_1 DB Maint Plan Test.subplan_2 DB Maint Plan Test.subplan_3 DB Maint Plan Test.subplan_4 DB Maint Plan Test.subplan_5 DB Maint Plan Test.subplan_6

My schedule is subplan_1 subplan_2 subplan_3 subplan_4 and subplan_6 run on Sunday only. subplan_6 runs every day except for Sunday.

When I created the Maintenance plan the Reporting and Logging was set to see below

With this setup I expect to receive an email for every job step that processes and I do.

I get a report in the body of the email showing if job was successful or not. All works great.

My Problem is that I receive multiple emails for the exact same job step. Anywhere from 3 to 5 duplicate email

I have checked the jobs properties and the mainenance plan can not find any thing wrong.

I recently upgraded from SQL 2005 to SQL 2008 and this worked great on SQL 2008.

SQL 2008 is a new install on a new server.

So again I get muitple emails for the same job step.

Any ideas on why?

Thanks

Tom

SQL 2008 SP3 CU7 installation fail

Hi everyone,

I trying install CU7 on SQL Server 2008 SP3 i get error:

"A SQL Server update with a higher version has already been installed on SQL Server instance MSSQLSERVER, so the current SQL Server update cannot be applied. The version of the SQL Server update that is already installed is GDR 10.3.5512.0(10.3.5825.0) with a KBKB2716436 and the current SQL Server update is 10.3.5794.0 with a KBKB2738350."

(So why the version is still - 10.0.5512 not 10.00.5766 or higher)

In Managment Studio version is: 10.0.5512

select @@version - Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (SP3) - 10.0.5512.0 (X64)   Aug 22 2012 19:25:47   Copyright (c) 1988-2008 Microsoft Corporation  Standard Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.1 <X64> (Build 7601: Service Pack 1) (VM)

Which CU or Hotfix i should install now to upgrade SQL?

SQL 2005 to SQL 2008 upgrade-Cluster Env- Error :sqlagent100_msdb_upgrade.sql' encountered error 33009- How to enable DAC on cluster SQL 2008

The current environment:

SQL server 2005 hosted on clustered environment with Active and Passive nodes. We started with passive node. Ran the upgrade advisor; found no issues. Proceeded with in-place upgrade. Upgrade completed with no issues. We rolled the cluster. SQL server service failed to start.

Got following error

Script level upgrade for database 'master' failed because upgrade step 'sqlagent100_msdb_upgrade.sql' encountered error 33009, state 2, severity 16. This is a serious error condition which might interfere with regular operation and the database will be taken offline. If the error happened during upgrade of the 'master' database, it will prevent the entire SQL Server instance from starting. Examine the previous errorlog entries for errors, take the appropriate corrective actions and re-start the database so that the script upgrade steps run to completion.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at _http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

When searched on this forum, I got following article that pretty much ran to in to the same problem that we encountered.

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlsetupandupgrade/thread/116cb02f-81f0-456b-ab7b-2c2dc157e99e

Ran following command  following command to start SQL Server and to bypass any upgrade scripts:

net start mssqlserver /f /T3608

Based on  following article - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/960781, tried to login to SQL using the 'admin-only' connection from Management Studio and from command prompt from the server  itself.

sqlcmd -A -d MASTER -E -S BAINBRIDGE

Got error saying DAC needed to be enabled.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Binn>sqlcmd -A -

d master

 allow remote connections..

Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft SQL Native Client : Login timeout expired.

Searching through MSDN again, found that DAC on cluster is by default off.  On cluster configurations, the DAC will be off by default. Users can execute the remote admin connection option of sp_configure to enable the DAC listener to access a remote connection. But , can not run the SP since I am not able to log in.

I would like to  know how to  enable DAC on SQL server 2008.

SQL Server Reporting Services (2008 and 2008 R2)  under this tab its not allowing me to configure Report server 2012 and if i'll configure here report server 2008 or 2008 r2 it gets configured. But when  i am trying to create the PowerView Report its throwing an error:

This functionality is not supported on the version of the Report Server specified in Central Administration.

Can anybody suggest me how to configure Report server 2012 so that i can  create Powerview reports.

Cannot connect to database master at SQL server at "SERVERNAME"

I have installed SQL 2008 R2 in a fresh win 2008 R2. I’m running the sharepoint configuration Wizard using the database server name with the correct domain credentials but I get the following error message. “Cannot connect to database master at SQL server at SERVERNAME. The database might not exist, or the current user does not have permission to connect”

I‘m able to login to the new SQL server using the “SQL server management studio” with no problems. I used the sa account and a domain account.

The sharepoint server is also a new installation. And both servers have the firewall disabled.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Spin Loop Attaching Database in 2000 => 2005 Upgrade

I just upgraded a large SQL 2000 database server to SQL 2005, and I have 2 databases that won't attach to the 2005 Server.  They are both very small, about 90MB in size, and when I attach them to 2005, the process alternates between running and spinloop status.  It can sit forever, and will never complete.  I restored backups before the upgrade to a SQL 2000 Server, and reran DBCC CheckDB on both, and got no consistency errors, Updated Stats and indexes, then detached and moved the data files to 2005, and same thing.

I want to install SQL Server 2008 November CTP Developer Enu. When "System Configuration Check" it shows:

Rule "Performance counter registry hive consistency check" failed.

The performance counter registry hive is corrupted.

And cannot continue installing. How to solve this problem?
