SQL Server 2012 SP2 installation failure on Windows 7 Ultimate with error code 84BC7358

There is a thread about similar failure on W8.1 with a different error code.  I thought it might be better for me to start a new thread.

There a long thread about this on Answers.

I followed the instruction of article Can't install SQL Server by using InstallShield or bootstrapping application because it applies to updates too. I ran the following command after downloading the SP2:

E:\TEMP\Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2 (KB2958429)>AMD64-en-sqlserver2012sp2-kb2958429-x64-enu_de8354a626886cf7348a95c3fd89012b711d6818.exe /SkipInstallerRunCheck

It goes through the multiple pre-installation steps without any problem, and started installation.  After a while, it showed the following:

Action required:

Feature failure reason:

Is there a setup.exe I can use to uninstall features?

Hi All,

Is setup.exe only on the install disc?  I want to uninstall some SQL Server 2012 features--like an instance or SSIS--but I hurt myself recently and I don't want to pull down a heavy box full down from a high shelf.

This is assuming I'm allowed more than one dumb question per year, and thanks for your help.

Thanks,
Eric

SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Studio install fails telling me to install Visual Studio 2008 SP1!

Hi,

I am getting the following error when trying to install SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Studio (SQLManagementStudio_x86_ENU.exe or SQLManagementStudio_x64_ENU.exe) on a new Toshiba Portege R830-10R:

Another version of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 has been detected on this system that must be updated to SP1.  Please update all Visual Studio 2008 installations to SP1 level, by visiting Microsoft Update.

I have all Windows Updates installed on this machine and I DO NOT have VS 2008 installed on this computer (VS2008 was never installed on this computer), but VS 2010 SP1 with .Net Framework 4.0 SP1!

I have sent all day trying to install either ones of the above .exe, but always get the same error message.

I have checked the registry and see that I do not have a  HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DevDiv\VS key but only a HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DevDiv\VC key (probably since I configured VS1010 for C#).  The HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DevDiv\VC\Servicing\9.0 contains SP = 1 and SPIndex = 1.

Please help.
Thanks.

Script level upgrade for database 'master' failed because upgrade step 'msdb110_upgrade.sql' encountered error 537, state 3, severity 16

Hello,

I've encountered issue during installation of SP1 to SQL Server 2012. After upgrade I'm getting this error in Event Log:

Script level upgrade for database 'master' failed because upgrade step 'msdb110_upgrade.sql' encountered error 537, state 3, severity 16. This is a serious error condition which might interfere with regular operation and the database will be taken offline. If the error happened during upgrade of the 'master' database, it will prevent the entire SQL Server instance from starting. Examine the previous errorlog entries for errors, take the appropriate corrective actions and re-start the database so that the script upgrade steps run to completion.

Can someone point me direction how I can fix it? This is a production server and currently only way to make it working is to use T902 flag in SQL Server startup params. I've found some suggestions to check Data path if it exists but it does so this is not the issue here. Any ideas?

I've found also here

http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic1377073-1550-1.aspx#bm1378279

suggestions for similar issue with SQL Server 2008 which that I should do:

Via ssms:
From msdb:
Delete:
dc_admin role
Dc_operator role
Dc_proxy role
UlitityCMRReader role
UtilityIMRReader role
UtilityIMRWriter role

but for not I didn't tried it yet. This is standalone SQL Server instance.

Any help really appreciated.

New install of SQL 2014 Std MSDN. Get "The SQL Server product key is not valid. To proceed, re-enter the product key values from the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) or SQL Server packaging."

Trying to install a new version of SQL 2014 Std 64 or x86. Installing on Windows 8.1Pro 64bit machine.

I get:

"TITLE: SQL Server Setup failure.
------------------------------

SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error:

The SQL Server product key is not valid. To proceed, re-enter the product key values from the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) or SQL Server packaging.

Error code 0x858C0017."

I looked at the summary log and that is the only error.

I made sure there were no other instances of SQL on this machine. Uninstalled all VS2013 and sql instances just in case. IF there is somewhere to check if a previous version or license is causing the issue, i would be glad to check.

Any help would be appreciated.

Upgrade from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server Express 2014 Enterprise

I was just wondering if it is possible to upgrade from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server Express or will I have to build the environment and then migrate the database?

Thanks for any help

SQL Server Developer

This may be a dumb question, but I just purchased SQL Server 2014 Developer Edition and downloaded it from the Microsoft site ($60).

My setup looks like this.

There is no A-drive or E-drive; I'm working on a virtual machine.  When I double click the Sqldev_eng_mar14, which is a Disk Image File, it shows me this.

Then is stops, and does nothing.  Do I need to download some kind of special software to install thisSQL Server Developer Edition?

Thanks to all.

I'd like to install sql server 2014 standard 'Evaluation' version on one of my many sql server servers currently running sql server 2008 standard edition.  IE  Upgrade sql server 2008 standard TO sql server 2014 Evaluation.  then, if after some testing all seems to work OK, we'll be purchasing SQL 2014 licenses for all our sql servers.

However I get the following error during the upgrade:

Specified edition upgrade is not supported.

Question is:  Should I be able to upgrade sql 2008 standard TO sql 2014 Evaluation edtion ???

Thank you.

Hello everybody,

on my Windows 8.1 development machine, our WSUS offers SQL Server 2012 (Developer Edition is installed) Service Pack 2. However, after a short time, the Installation Fails with Windows Update error code 84B30002.

WindowsUpdate.log says: B0CA36AEDCF8} 200 80070643 AutomaticUpdatesWuApp Failure Content Install Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070643: Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2 (KB2958429).

As far as I can see, C:\Temp\SqlSetup.log is in the following process:

06/30/2014 11:35:15.928 Attempting to load .Net security policy file C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\security.config

The last lines are then:

Is this a knwon issue? What should I do please?

Install SQL Server 2012 Express / Std

Hi Guys

I am not an expert on MS SQL Server. For one of the upcoming projects, we intend to use Trend Micro's DSM which requires a MS SQL Server.

For the evaluation of the product, I have installed Windows Server 2012 180 Evaluation copy in a Virtual box and tried to install the SQL Server 2012 Express on that OS. The installation of SQL Server 2012 did not report any errors. However after having installed SQL Server 2012 Express, I tried to install the Trend Micro's DSM(Deep Security Manager). When we are given with the Database setup portion during the installation, I select the DB as SQL Server and key in the hostname as "host name" or tried with the "ip address of the host" then provided the user name as "sa" and the password. When I click on the next button, it throws the error "Unable to connect to the database: Network error IOException: Connection refused: connect"

I searched for few answers on google, but none seemed to have a resolution for my issue.

I would greatly appreciate if if someone could let me know how can I solve this issue.

Regards

Jossy

Install SQL Server Express 2014 on same machine as SQL Server Express 2008 R2

Hello, I have a customer with a CRM application using SQL Server 2008 Express (installed as part of the product installation).

They wish to use another database-based application and the CRM company is recommending a separate instance of SQL for the other database.

So, I am wondering if it is possible to install SQL Server Express 2014 on the same machine as the existing SQL Server Express 2008 R2?

Many thanks for any assistance provided.

KB2977320 Update fails with error 0x80070643

Posted in case this impacts you too.

Security Update for SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 (KB2977320) repeatedly failed to install today on a 2012.R2 server (SQL Express instance which runs Kaspersky Security Center). Error 0x80070643 is issued. Most pointers on the web suggest this may be .NET error related rather than SQL.

I ran the installer manually (extracted from c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Install after failed Windows Update)  and the .NET 3.5  feature "couldn't be installed", as expected with 2012.R2 I guess. Installed the .NET 3.5 package via 2012 Server Manager and reran the standalone installer successfully.

Not sure how Kaspersky originally installed the 2008 SSE instance as .NET 3.5 appears to be a requirement.

Hi

I have a SQL2005 server on a Windows2003 server .I have to upgrade this to SQL2012 and Windows2012.  If I upgrade OS alone to 2012 then the current 2005 will be impacted ?What is the best method to do it .

Stuck in upgrade mode after KB2977320

After successfully applying KB2977320 security update to a passive node in the cluster then subsequently moving an instance to the node, I'm getting stuck in a condition where I can no longer connect to the instance. The error message is "Login failed for user 'mydomain\myusername' Reason: Server is in script upgrade mode. Only administrator can connect at this time.

After reviewing the ERRORLOG for this instance, I have found "Database 'master' is upgrading script 'sqlagent100_msdb_upgrade.sql' from level 0 to level 2."

The next related error is "Failed to initialize Distributed COM (CoInitializeEx returned 80010119). Heterogeneous queries and remote procedure calls are disabled. Check the DCOM configuration using Component Services in Control Panel."

And finally:
Creating view sysalerts_performance_counters_view...
Error: 7404, Severity: 16, State: 2.
The server could not load DCOM.
Error: 912, Severity: 21, State: 2.
Script level upgrade for database 'master' failed because upgrade step 'sqlagent100_msdb_upgrade.sql' encountered error 7404, state 2, severity 25.
Error: 3417, Severity: 21, State: 3.
Cannot recover the master database. SQL Server is unable to run. Restore master from a full backup, repair it, or rebuild it. For more information about how to rebuild the master database, see SQL Server Books Online.

Things I tried so far:

The steps in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2163980 did not resolve the issue, although I can connect while having the -T902 flag on.

Tried uninstall / reinstall of patch, same behavior.

Tried install / startup with AV disabled.

Also found that running "select * from sys.dm_os_performance_counters" will reproduce the DCOM issue while the instance is started with -T902.

At this point in time the Application event log says this, "Failed to initialize Distributed COM (CoInitializeEx returned 80010119). Heterogeneous queries and remote procedure calls are disabled. Check the DCOM configuration using Component Services in Control Panel."

This is SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP2 x64 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Sp1, Multi-node, multi-instance Failover Cluster setup. Can recreate the issue on multiple similar setups.

Can anyone offer some help on next steps for troubleshooting?

Thanks!

I recently cloned a VM Windows 2008r2 server which contained and instance of SQL Server and several production database. I realized the problem when I booted up the cloned server an the sql server was up and running. I have since shut it down as well as all the services related. can I remove the SQL server with the ADD REMOVE PROGRAMS and then delete the databases manually deleting the directories? Or is there a correct way to do this?
