on win 2003 32 bit

I need to update firmware on the backend storage used by our Active/Passive SQL Server 2005 Cluster. The first step in the process states that all I/O to the disks should be stopped. Per that, I need to take the the SQL Server cluster offline AND the cluster group; however, I then need to use one of the servers that participates in the cluster to perform the upgrade on the storage array. Using the process (which doesn't account for having to use one of clustered servers to perform updates) outlined at http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1550288&SiteID=1 as a basis, below is my best guess regarding what I will need to do:
Shutdown:
1. Backup all of your databases prior to the outage and ensure they are in a safe place (NOT on the disk drives in the cluster)
2. Take the SQL Server group OFFLINE. This will cleanly shutdown the SQL Server and it will remain offline when you power the machine back on.
3. Once SQL Server is offline, power off the node which does NOT have the cluster resource currently running on it
4. Save the node which is running the cluster group for last - make a note of this machine as it will be the first one you power back on. MY ADDITION: Before powering it down, set the cluster service to manual so that when you restart the server to perform the storage array maintenance, the cluster will not be running - and likewise not generating I/O against the disk array.
MY ADDITION: 5. Restart the server from step 4. Takes the cluster offline "cleanly" and brings the server back on line so that the storage array maintenance can be performed.
6. Update the firmware on the storage array. After that is complete, set the cluster service back to "Automatic".
Start up:
1. Restart the server. Per the previous steps, the server to be restarted will be the server that last hosted the cluster group and the one used to update the firmware on the storage array.
2. RDP into the node, open cluster administrator, and verify that the cluster came back online successfully and everything looks clean
3. Power on the second node.
4. Failover the cluster group across each node in the cluster and validate that everything looks OK
5. Bring your SQL Server groups back online
6. Validate that everything is operational
Is there a better way to do this or official documentation for the process?
Thanks.
Hello,
I am looking to install SQL Server 2012 tools on a dozen or so client computers. There are two servers set up with everything installed including the client tools. This issue is going to all the client computers and manually installing the tools in a task that I wish to avoid. Is there a way to push the client tools from the servers and automatically install it on the clients?

Hi Folk's,
I have an installation of SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition on Windows Server 2012 R2. The installation was successful with the exception I have no SQL icons in the start menu - so I can't run the SQL Server Management Studio without going and looking for the executable.
Does anyone know how I can re-generate the icons. I have tried doing a repair but this did not work.
Regards
Andy
I am looking for any information on what issues, un-usable features, gotchas that one would run into if they installed SQL14 on WinSrv 08R2 ... to keep it simple (per say) lets say both are enterprise editions.
Thanks!
Hi there
I have an Windows App (VS 2008 using VB) deployment prerequisite of SQL 2008 Express. I recently installed my App on a Windows 8.1 x64 system and all worked as expected. The only real difference I see is the SQL Express Folder name on the deployment system (Windows 8.1) is "MSSQL10.SQLEXPRESS" whereas on my system (Windows 7 x64) the SQL Express Folder name is "MSSQL10_50.SQLEXPRESS" . Can someone explain why the difference?
Thanks

I have a SQL server on which I've created a second instance using Windows authentication. I never created an SA account or password during installation of the new second instance.
In Security > Logins, I see SA. Is this the same account as the one in the other instance. I don't know the other instance's password, so if I change it in the new instance will it be changed in the previously existing instance as well?
Thanks,
Scott
I want to install "Sql Server Management Studio" so I can manage a remove database from my PC.
The installation first checks some rules, and one of them fails.
I clicked 'details" on the error message and got:
RebootRequiredCheck</td>
Checks if a pending computer restart is required. A pending restart can cause Setup to fail.</td>
Failed</td>
A computer restart is required. You must restart this computer before installing SQL Server.</td>
Restarting the computer manually does not help though. (My windows version is 8.1).
Help!
Hi everyone,
Now that SQL Server 2012 SP2 is out, I'm not sure of the proper install sequence I should follow in order to install this update.
BTW I'm actually using SQL Server 2012 Developer SP1 along with Visual Studio 2010 Professional SP1 + SQL Server Data Tools for VS2010. Is there any actually known compatibility problems between SQL Server 2012 SP2 with VS2010 SP1? Same
question but with SQL Server Data Tools for VS2010?
Here is what I actually have installed:
SQL Server 2012 Developer + SP1 + CU5 + CU7 + CU8
SQL Server 2012 SP1 Feature Pack
- System CLR Types for SQL Server 2012 version 10.51.2500.0
- SQL Server 2012 Data-Tier App Framework version 11.1.2902.0
- SQL Server 2012 T-SQL Language Service version 11.1.3000.0
- SQL Server Report Builder 3 for SQL Server 2012 version 11.1.3000.0
- SQL Server 2012 Shared Management Objects version 11.1.3000.0
- SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB version 11.1.3401.0
Already installed by SP1 upgrade pack:
- SQL Server 2012 T-SQL Compiler Service version 11.1.3401.0
- SQL Server 2012 T-SQL ScriptDom version 11.1.3000.0
SQL Server Data Tools for Visual Studio 2010 version 10.3.31009.2
Pre-requisites for SSDT
version 11.1.3000.0
1- Preparing to upgrade:
Anything I should uninstall first?
2- Upgrade SQL Server 2012 to SP2
Now what I found as updates are the following:
SQL Server 2012 SP2
http://www.microsoft.com/fr-FR/download/details.aspx?id=43340&WT.mc_id=Blog_SQL_Announce_DI
SQL Server 2012 SP2 Features Pack
http://www.microsoft.com/fr-FR/download/details.aspx?id=43339
SQL Server 2012 SP2 CU1
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2976982/en-us
I also found this patch:
FIX: Data corruption occurs in clustered index when you run online index rebuild
in SQL Server 2012 or SQL Server 2014
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2969896/en-us
Any other updates I should install? Anyone listed here I should not install?
Hope to hear from someone,
Stéphane
We have upgraded from SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2012 SP2. We are having issues that were supposedly fixed in previous cumulative updates to SP1 of SQL Server.
Once such issue is the Analysis Deployment Wizard Crashes as mentioned in the URL below: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2809127 I checked the XML file and it reflects that the article mentions, but the problem still persists.
We also have issues with Reporting Services where when you run a report that has lots of items, the expand option does not work, gives the error invalid parameter.
Is there a way to verify that Service Pack 2 included all of the cumulative updates and security updates?

Has anyone come across this problem when trying to upgrade sqlserver 2008 sp2 on a cluster environment. The installation when through but at the end it says failure and when i tried to reinstall i get a message saying Installation incomplete but it already installed SP2. Any help will be appreciated.
Below is the error log message.

I have searched high and low for weeks but cannot figure out how to enable FILESTREAMs in SQL Server when installed as a prerequisite to a Visual Stuido "oneclick" application.
Enabling FILESTREAM requires a lot of point and click operations through TWO programs: SQL Server Management Studio and SQL Server Configuration Manager.
Can someone please show me how to enable FILESTREAM upon install of a "oneclick" application?
To be more specific, I want to:
I see that this question has been asked before but it has never been fully answered. Simply running an SQL query to enable FILESTREAM is not enough. There is a second part which would be handled by:
Manual operations are not acceptable.
Thank you very much for your time and sorry for the long winded question.
To verify if the "2008 R2" version can be restored back to a "2008" dbserver I make an experiment: construct a database on R2 version ( version : 10.50.xxx ) and backup it; then I try to restore the db backup to a "sql server 2008" db-server ( version : 10.0.xxx ) but get failed.
Error message is as shown:
The database was backed up on a server running version 10.50.1600. That version is incompatible with this server, which is running version 10.00.2531. Either restore the database on a server that supports the backup, or use a backup that is compatible with this server.
Originally I want to upgrade a "2008" server to "2008 r2" , but this problem withdraws me: if I do so , I am afraid all the existing clientuser's dbs cannot be backed up to themselves if they don't have "2008 r2" locally: if a database is backed up under "2008 r2" environment whereas client user only has "2008" db server, does it mean he cannot restore it anymore?
So I wonder if there is an approach that helps me to create a "backward-compatible" database; when creating database on wizard there is an option to choose "compatibility level" but I don't think it meets my requirement.. Anyone can help me on this ??
HI I tried to install SQL Server 2008 R2. I am getting the error message "could not write key \software" Can you please help me to shortout this error. I tried all the ways like giving permission in registry.
Thanks
Hi,
We need to move all our reports, SSIS packages and DB components which are now in SQL Server 2012 to SQL Server 2008. Is this possible?
We are not downgrading our server(2012) but rather moving into a different server(2008)
We have not used any of the new features in our DB Components or reports or packages.
I am trying to install SQL Server 2012 Developer edition and I get the error at the bottom.
My system: 64 bit Windows 7
Things I have done:
I have downloaded a different ISO from the MSDN site twice and I still get the same error.
I have trying the installer in Admin mode
FYI Previously I was able to successfully install an instance of Sql 2012 but I need to uninstall it and reinstall. After the uninstall, I have not been able to reinstall. Any ideas would be great.
Thanks

We are able to download the SQL Server 2014 Enterprise and Standard edition installation media from the Microsoft Volume License Site but cannot find the SQL Server 2014 Developer edition.
Where can SQL Server 2014 Developer edition be downloaded?
The CU4 patch was applied on non-clustered SQL Server 2012 SP1 instance to fix Service Broker issue (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2837910/en-us) for email notifications, but now have different problems with our SharePoint 2013 site. The users are complaining about slowness and broken links within sub-sites.
Current version after patch: SQL Server 2012 Standard Edition (64-bit) SP1 (11.0.3368.0)
SharePoint version: SharePoint 2013
Is there any issue with this fix?
Thanks!
