Installation failed because operating system not supported?

0
0

I am installing SQL Server 2012 native client on a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 virtual machine using the /L*v option to msiexec.exe. The installation fails and the log says this:

Action start 10:28:17: LaunchConditions.
MSI (s) (B4:E8) [10:28:17:433]: Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Native Client  -- Installation of this product failed because it is not supported on this operating system. For information on supported configurations, see the product documentation.

Installation of this product failed because it is not supported on this operating system. For information on supported configurations, see the product documentation.
Action ended 10:28:17: LaunchConditions. Return value 3.
Action ended 10:28:17: INSTALL. Return value 3.

According to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc280356.aspx, I can't see why it isn't working. The operating system is clearly supported. What gives?

SQL Server Developer edition convert from 32 bit to 64 bit.

Hi,

We have microsoft visual studio 2012 ultimate installed on our programmers machines. We also installed SSDT and sql server client tools. Then I and my colleague decided to install SQL Server 2012 Developer edition on our machines so that we can do debugging of our stored procedures. Both of us installed developer edition. but something went wrong in choosing which version I wanted on my machine. When I do

Select @@ version, this is what I get:

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (SP1) - 11.0.3000.0 (Intel X86)
 Oct 19 2012 13:43:21
 Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation
Developer Edition on Windows NT 6.1 <X64> (Build 7601: Service Pack 1) (WOW64)

My colleagues is:

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (SP1) - 11.0.3000.0 (X64)

                Oct 19 2012 13:38:57

                Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation

Developer Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.1 <X64> (Build 7601: Service Pack 1)

I know that mine is 32 bit developer edition and his is 64 bit edition.

We had to install ODBC DSN for debugging to work. Because mine is 32 bit, it is not working and his works.

My question is:

  1. How can I install 64 bit version of developer edition. Can I upgrade.
  2. If I can't upgrade, then do I need to uninstall 32 bit developer edition. If yes, does it mess up my rest of SSDT, client tools and visual studio 2012.
  3. I am bit hesitant to uninstall, because my work station is needed.
  4. What are other alternates.

Please let me know.

I appreciate your response.

How to create and TDE encrypt a sql instance and db?

0
0

I'm looking for a step by step how to. Sorry if this is an overly broad question.

Creating a new instance shouldn't be much of a problem. Run the sql install, create a new instance with a new name.

I'm no dba, have zero experience with encryption, so... is TDE applied after the instance is created? Would I backup/restore a db to the new instance before or after applying TDE? Is TDE "applied", and how?

HALP

Thanks,

Scott

SQL Server 2012 SP2 installation failure on Windows 7 Ultimate with error code 84BC7358

There is a thread about similar failure on W8.1 with a different error code.  I thought it might be better for me to start a new thread.

There a long thread about this on Answers.

I followed the instruction of article Can't install SQL Server by using InstallShield or bootstrapping application because it applies to updates too. I ran the following command after downloading the SP2:

E:\TEMP\Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2 (KB2958429)>AMD64-en-sqlserver2012sp2-kb2958429-x64-enu_de8354a626886cf7348a95c3fd89012b711d6818.exe /SkipInstallerRunCheck

It goes through the multiple pre-installation steps without any problem, and started installation.  After a while, it showed the following:

Use the following information to resolve the error, and then try the setup process again.

Feature failure reason:

License key for cross edition rights

I just purchased a new license for SQL Server 2014 developer edition, and I need to exercise my cross-edition rights to install a copy of SQL Server 2008 R2 developer edition. Will the installation media for 2008R2 accept the license key from 2014?

Upgrade single instance from 2008 R2 SP2 to 2012 SP1

We have a central SQL 2008 R2 server that has multiple named instances, one each for System Center Configuration Manager 2012 R2, System Center Operations Manager 2012 R2, Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2, App Controller and one for CRM 2013 SP1.

Can we easily upgrade just the CRM instance to 2012 SP1? Any suggestions how to approach this.

XP system restore could not complete. Error says sqlboot.dll is corrupted

I have windows xp. While I was uninstalling Norton 360 and running another program (Avast checking browser addons), I got a message that a certain file (don't know which) was being changed, and am I sure I want to do that. I said no, but it kept asking me again. I could not stop the processes in motion, nor could I get rid of this message. Finally (stupidly) I said yes.

The Norton finished uninstalling, but Avast was stuck. I finally shut down the computer using the task manager.  When I rebooted, I could not open any programs except Avast. I started reinstalling programs, but then realized I could system restore. So I did.

When the computer rebooted after the system restore process I got this message: "Your SQL server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with (unable to load sqlboot.dll) Please install then re-run setup to correct this problem."  And the system was not restored.

I don't know what sql is, nor do I know what I should install and re-run to fix this.

Can anyone help? Thank you.

SQL Server Developer doesn't install Database engine

I have installed and repaired and  reinstalled SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition.  There is often a warning about the Windows Firewall needing to be configured if access to the default instance is needed.  This has been done but the warning persists.  And invariably we get an error 29559

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 1 Setup
------------------------------

The following error has occurred:

The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with the package. The error code is 29559.

There is a link given which this form will not accept and which is, in any case, dead.   There is very little further information I have spent hours on this.  What  is the fix?

Whether MSSQL server vss component metadata is encrypted ?

Hi all,

I am using VSS snapshot to backup the SQL and Exchange server applications data.

My application was done in C++ language.

I was using IVssBackupComponents::SaveAsXML() to save the Backup Components Document xml. I am calling this function once after the the snapshot process completed correctly.

The problem i had is for exchange server application, the backup document has the component information correctly like below,

<COMPONENT logicalPath="Microsoft Exchange Server\Microsoft Information Store\WINTEST3" componentName="53a4c3d7-fab9-4ef3-becd-a2b61d677ca1" componentType="filegroup"><BACKUP_METADATA xmlns="" metadata="<?xml version="1.0"?>
<EXWRITER_METADATA><VERSION_STAMP>14.02.0247.003</VERSION_STAMP><DATABASE_NAME>SmallDB01</DATABASE_NAME><DATABASE_GUID>53a4c3d7-fab9-4ef3-becd-a2b61d677ca1</DATABASE_GUID><EDB_LOCATION_ORIGINAL>N:\SmallDB01</EDB_LOCATION_ORIGINAL><EDB_FILENAME_ORIGINAL>SmallDB01.edb</EDB_FILENAME_ORIGINAL><PRIVATE_MDB>yes</PRIVATE_MDB><LOG_SIGNATURE_ID>623689592</LOG_SIGNATURE_ID><LOG_SIGNATURE_TIMESTAMP>406849652923395</LOG_SIGNATURE_TIMESTAMP><LOG_BASE_NAME>E0A</LOG_BASE_NAME><LOG_PATH_ORIGINAL>N:\SmallDB01\</LOG_PATH_ORIGINAL></EXWRITER_METADATA>
"/></COMPONENT></WRITER_COMPONENTS>

But for SQL server application, the components meta-data are encrypted like below,

<WRITER_COMPONENTS xmlns="x-schema:#VssComponentMetadata" instanceId="765eb3bf-53b6-40c1-833c-68c20dbdd92a" writerId="a65faa63-5ea8-4ebc-9dbd-a0c4db26912a" instanceName="SQL Server 2008 R2:SQLWriter" backupSchema="881"><COMPONENT logicalPath="DOMAINNAME\SQLEXPRESS" componentName="Data01-G" componentType="filegroup"><BACKUP_METADATA xmlns="" metadata="BBwAAFRBUEUAAAMAjAAOAQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIAhwWRiB6ZBQAAAAEAAAACAAMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALABeAAAEABIfedkS7QFNAGkAYwByAG8AcwBvAGYAdAAgAFMAUQBMACAAUwBlAHIAdgBlAHIAAAAAAAAAUkFJRAAAAAAgAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA7BRb7iolRMuhFl0o8SB0IDkKtAADwAQABAAEAAAAAAAEAAABTUEFEAAAAACYDAAAAAAAAAAAAADQXAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.../></COMPONENT>

So whether the meta-data attribute value is encrypted in the backup component by default for sql server application?

If so how to decrypt to get the component information?

Can anyone aware of this?

I need to collect the database component information which is added in the snapshot.

Appreciate your help on this.

Thanks,
Kumar

How do I install (just the required assembles without server licence) client library to a client machine so that I can invoke SSIS/SSAS 2012 remotely?

0
0

We are trying to figure the easiest way to install client lib on a machine to call SSIS/SSAS remotely (to a SQL Server 2012).

We have some .net code referencing SMO/AMO and Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.IntegrationServices.

1) For SMO, I found out this and it is quite clear about how to install on a client machine:

Installing SMO (SQL Server Management Objects (SMO))

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms162189(v=sql.110).aspx

2) For AMO (analysis management object), I found out this but I did not see a clear instruciton of what and how to install on the client machine:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms124924(v=sql.110).aspx

3) For SSIS call, I did not find anything talking about the client installation.

Can someone help us?

Thanks.

Utility control point icons turn green and gray

I am running SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise and have set up a MDW, Utility MDW and UCP, when enrolling the instances on the UCP, I get a warning about WMI but it allows me to enroll the instance.  After enrollment of the isntance I have seen the icons turn green and provide data for each instance but after a few minutes the icons will turn gray again and no data will be seen in any of the tabs.  When I go back into the instance and refresh sometimes it will turn green and provide data, but after a few seconds it turns gray again.  I have looked at the wmi get commands and verified that I can query the wmi data on each instance as discussed in this article:  http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee210592.aspx  I am not sure why it is providing data sometimes (green icons) and then going back to gray icons (no data).  Can anyone give me some things to check?  It has been collecting data for a few days now...

Install SQL 2008 Express with VS 2008 WinApp Deployment on Windows 8

Hi There

Question: is there anything special I must do to ensure that SQL Express 2008 with SP3 gets installed on a Windows 8 or 8.1 machine as a prerequisite for my VS 2008 WinApp. I currently have the packages required in my "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bootstrapper\Packages\SqlExpress2008R2" folder (Win 7 / 64 machine) and it does install SQL 2008 Express perfectly on Vista and Windows 7 machines. I'm just concerned there are some other Bootstrapper Packages I need or need to put them in a different location or some other configuration setting that has to be in place.

Any assistance with complete instructions for handling SQL 2008 Express as a prerequisite installation on any OS platform within my VS2008 deployment and setup project would be appreciated.

Thanks
